BILL BROVOLD "IN THE WINDOW"
JUNE 15, 2013 • 7- 9pm
Saturday, June 15th IHGallery's storefront window proudly hosted a performance by musician Bill Brovold and friends. David Budd joined Brovold on percussion, playing instruments that Brovold made. Brovold's current work is mostly instrumental guitar work bordering on "Americana" but he is known to belt out a cowboy song or even a Scottish murder ballad. Guest musicians are promising to show up for a song or two.

Musician/composer, visual artist and educator Bill Brovold was involved in New York City's downtown scene work with Rhys Chatham's ensembles, Glenn Branca and some early "Cow-punk" music. In the mid-90s he moved to Detroit and was leader of the group Larval which released CDs on Knitting Factory and Cuneiform Labels. Brovold's own solo efforts have come out on John Zorn's Avant and Tzadik labels as well as others.
Born in Tacoma WA in 1957, Brovold moved to New York to attend the School of Visual Arts in the late 70s. In 1983 he was enlisted in the Rhys Chatham Ensemble, a connection that continues to this day. Throughout the 1980s he composed music for film makers, dance groups and performance artists. His love of machinery, found objects and folk music is apparent throughout his many recordings and performances. This year he's released the $100 guitar project and the Duet for Theremin and Steel Guitar. He now lives in the Hudson Valley working on multiple local projects as well as teaching art, music and instrument making to children in NYC public schools.
